In the 4th Semester in FH Joanneum we had three courses that I and Julia Kaar decided to combine into a bigger project with a meta-theme. The courses were: 1. Research&Knowledge; we had to write a research paper, and create a video and a poster about a chosen topic. 2. Generative Design; group project where we had to implement a project in processing in an interactive project. 3. Responsive Environments; create an interactive project with the tools we were given. Ferdinand Pop was part of the group for the courses Nr 2 and Nr 3. The meta-theme we chose to work with was AI & Creativity.
RESEARCH PAPER - ABSTRACT
The design industry is constantly changing, new innovations such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) are implemented in programs to speed up and facilitate design processes. As a result, designers are constantly adapting and learning new things throughout their careers. In addition, tools are coming on the market that allows non-designers to design logos and websites. The authors‘ focus in the research and implementation is on the emotional perspective and addresses whether „AI“ can replace designers. The authors gathered insights and pre-existing knowledge with primary and secondary data. The primary data in this case results from a survey whose target group is mainly aspiring young design students. The secondary data comes mainly from internet sources, as Artificial Intelligence is constantly changing, printed literature is mostly unavailable, or the topic is only treated in a sociocultural and philosophical context.
During the research a change of perspective took place and the authors also looked at how AI can help designers and came up with several points: from brainstorming to thinking out-of-the-box and creating designs that could not have been imagined before. This also led to the study‘s visual image of „AI and Creativity.“ For many people, AI is an evil mystery, an Obscurus (mythical creature in the movie: „fabulous creatures and where to find them“ The objective of the research is to present AI differently; as a colorful, friendly, if sometimes scary mystery, because the world is constantly changing, the only question is how we deal with it.
VIDEO
This video is about coping with the everlasting change in the design industry. It's about acceptance but should also enhance the question if it is good for our mental health to strive for faster, better & cleaner Design.
POSTER
Our main motifs are the "human" and "AI" which is represented by this form we called "Obscurum". For the name, we were inspired by the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". The poster is interactive with the Artivive App.
RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENTS
Areas of application:
within an exhibition (RE) e.g. at Ars Electronica Linz

Interaction:
The object being interacted with: " Obscurum" represents AI
